  THE APPLIQUÉ TECHNIQUE

Appliqué is a technique of using two or more different materials on to the base fabric or garment to create a contrast effect. It is also very use full to cover large areas, and to avoid having to many stitches in one area.

In the example on the right, because of the size of the rugby ball, we have used white felt to get the coverage, and then embroidered onto the felt and the polo shirt. By doing this we have achieved a large coverage without over-stitching. This allows for flexibility in the garment.

The design  below was  the front panel of a jacket it was embroidered from the shoulder down to the hem. The two fabrics are overlapping as can be seen with the small petal design.

The embroidery on the right is a cushion that we embroidered and shows the large coverage that we can cover while still retaining the usefulness of the cushion.
